I recommend getting a ledger as soon as you start DeFi because it will help secure your accounts. Most importantly is that your seed phrase will not be exposed like hot wallets as they are created on your cold wallet itself.

I always recommend buying it official so that there is no funny business with your device. I have heard too many stories of people's devices being compromised and that they lose all their assets because they got their cold wallet from a 2nd hand place. Better to spend more to protect yourself from this risk.

The cable I was talking in the video is a Micro USB cable which is included in your box so you don't need to buy extra. You will also receive some sheets to write down your seed phrase included with your box, and you can write down your code in

When connecting Ledger to Metamask, you do not need to input your seed phrase but through ledger connection. Check out this article and video on how to do it.
